Send Them Your Love, the Chinese Way

Send Them Your Love, the Chinese Way
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 9, 2004
At the tender age of six, while still a student in first grade, Joyce Wan began her greeting card career. That’s when, encouraged by her parents, she submitted her design for a Christmas card featuring two children building a snowman to the annual Boston Citywide Greeting Card Design Contest. Her entry won first place, and was subsequently mass-produced and sold through a major regional department store chain.
Two decades later, Wan is an acclaimed graphic artist who has turned that early success into the inspiration for a line of greeting cards. These cards delightfully combine charming characters of her own creation with concepts and situations that pay homage to the Chinese culture and traditions of her family.
“I’ve always had a hard time finding fun, culturally appropriate greetings for my friends and family,” says Wan. “After looking and looking for Lunar New Year cards without much luck, I decided to make my own.” The result was WanArt’s Zodiac Babiesä, a whimsical collection of greeting cards depicting the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac.
The success of the Zodiac Babies led Wan to expand her product line to include greetings for all kinds of sending situations, from well-wishes and friendship, to Asian and Western holidays and special occasions.
Now, WanArt’s new Chinese Charactersä collection features elegant Chinese calligraphy of words and phrases from, “Thanks” to “Peace” to “Good Luck,” all illuminated with decorative motifs inspired by the traditional Chinese folk art of paper cutting. The meaning of the terms and motifs contained in each card is explained on its back, transforming a simple greeting into a cross-cultural encounter.
All WanArt cards measure 5.25″ x 5.25″ and are printed on high-quality uncoated cardstock. Each card is individually wrapped in a clear cellophane sleeve with a matching square white envelope (special envelopes that do not require additional postage also available), and carries a suggested retail price of $ 2.99.
The nation’s 13.1 million Asian/Pacific Islander population has emerged as a potent consumer force that commands over $ 400 billion in disposable income, and spends lavishly on gift items that reflect and respect their cultural heritage; meanwhile, Asian culture has become increasingly popular in American society at large, making WanArt cards a suitable product for anyone.
