I am Asian-American born/raised in the U.S,and planning to go to Spain for vacation. Can I expect any racism?
After hearing about the gesture the Spanish Olympic Basketball team did prior to the Olympics am worried my vacation will be ruined by people displaying that gesture towards me.

Not more racism than anywhere else in the world.
The gesture of the basketball team was just a stupid mistake for an advertisement. You know, marketing people are stupid.
I am wondering now if I am an anti-marketing people racist….. but I really hate them. lol
I’m spanish, born and raised in madrid and living in the US…. I’m actually biracial and I can tell you that no matter where you go there’s always someone that will look at you differently than the rest. No matter if you’re in Spain or California… I had to deal with racism when i came to the USA three years ago (and this is supposed to be a country of diversity) but I also found very nice people that treated me with the respect everybody deserves.
So, go to Spain, have a lot of fun and don’t worry about those things… only one person can ruin your vacation… and that’s you.
Spain isn’t more or less racist than any other western country, but they don’t have the same culture of keeping things “politically correct” as in the US.
That’s why you have incidents like the Olympics photo where the gestures were misinterpreted as racist by the international media. Also there have been more questionable incidents such as people donning blackface to a car-race to jeer a rival competitor.
Keep this in mind and you won’t be offended.
you could - I am Asian and at a smaller town in Spain, a shopkeeper refused to serve me! But racism happens in many countries and occassionally even back at home!
